(Greenfield, IA) – With the state tournament starting today, let’s take a look at the Nodaway Valley Wolverines who are ready to get out and wrestle with five state qualifiers. Ty Strode (120) has jumped into his first time at the state meet for the Wolverines while he has bounced back and forth at the 120-130 weight class. Keeyin Steeve (126) is leaping back to the state tournament alongside Carmine Shaw (144) who is also returning back to Des Moines.
Two of Nodaway Valley’s state-bound athletes currently sit at 43-2 overall heading into the tournament. Those two are Ashton Honnold and Trent Warner who have broken multiple career records and team records this season. They are both returning to Des Moines for the state tournament, but this time, they believe that they are the top two wrestlers in the meet.
Nodaway Valley is going to continue rolling with their success from the regular season. The Wolverines had a send-off this morning for their wrestlers as they take today to practice in Wells Fargo for the first round of wrestling action at 6:00 p.m.
The Wolverines bring their five qualifiers to the state tournament alongside multiple local teams from the Southwest Iowa region to today’s high school state tournament at Des Moines. Class 2A will start at 9:00 a.m. followed by 3A at 1:30 p.m. and 1A at 6:00 p.m.
