(Atlantic) Atlantic defeated Harlan in an intense boys’ basketball game on Monday night, winning 48-46. The Trojans started strong and finished even stronger, with Nolan Waters leading the team with an impressive 22 points. Colton Rasmussen added 16, Gavin McLaren scored 5, Hudson McLaren put up 3, and Tyrell Williams contributed 2. Meanwhile, Franz Reisz led the Cyclones with 12 points, Jason Erlemeier scored 11, Cade Sears had 8, Ben Leinen put up 7, Brehden Eggerss and Will Arkfeld had 3 each, and Quinn Koesters added 2.
The Trojans took an early lead in the first quarter, with Waters hitting three buckets from behind the arc and Rasmussen firing eight points. Harlan tried to make a comeback in the second quarter, closing the gap to 21-20 with a 13-2 run. However, the Trojans maintained their lead with a three-point shot by Hudson McLaren just before halftime.
Harlan took the lead in the third quarter, but the Trojans refused to back down. A 12-0 run in the final eight minutes, with Waters hitting two three-point baskets and McLaren scoring five points, gave Atlantic a 45-40 lead late in the game. The Cyclones had the final possession with eight seconds left, but they failed to get a shot away, sealing the victory for the Trojans.
With this win, Atlantic’s record improves to 7-14 on the season, and they will travel to Denison on Tuesday night. Harlan drops to 12-8 and will host Carroll on Thursday.
