(Iowa City, IA) – What a night for #2 Iowa women’s basketball. The Hawkeyes, led by Hannah Stuelke earned a 111-93 victory over Penn State as the Hawkeyes broke multiple home-court records on the night with the win.
Iowa was led on the night by Hannah Stuelke as she shot 17-20 from the field, 13-21 from the charity stripe, and hauled in nine boards with a total of 47 points on the night for her new career-high. Stuelke’s 47 points is a Carver-Hawkeye Arena record for the most points scored in a single game. This marked just the 16th 40-point performance in Hawkeye history and was the second-most points ever scored in a game by an Iowa women’s player. She is just the second Hawkeye to outscore Clark in a game since Molly Davis did on February 12, 2023.
Speaking of Caitlin Clark, she broke another record on the night with 15 total assists, which marks a new record at home for Iowa basketball. Clark put down 27 points and also hauled in five rebounds for her 56th career double-double as the only player in the country with 705+ points, 170+ assists, and 150+ rebounds. Clark is now just 39 points away from Kelsey Plum’s NCAA scoring record while also becoming the Big Ten’s all-time leader in field goals.
Looking at the other Hawkeyes on the night, Kate Martin also put down double-digits with 16 points and 16 rebounds for a double-double on the night for a +25 rating on the night. Sydney Affolter was just short of a double-double with a total of nine points and 10 rebounds while going 4-4 from the charity stripe.
On the other side of the floor, Ashley Owusu shot just 4-15 from the field while going 10-14 from the charity stripe while knocking in 18 points and snagging nine boards to be just short of a double-double. She also forced five turnovers and swiped away three steals. Leilani Kapinus knocked down a double-double on the night with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Makenna Marisa forced three turnovers and put down 12 points on the night while grabbing five rebounds. Alli Campbell led the team in assists with four and also knocked in 10 points on the night. Moriah Murray finished off the top scorers with nine points and also snagged six boards.
Iowa is now 10-1 in their last 11 meetings with the Nittany Lions dating back to 2018. The Hawkeyes are 37-4 in Big Ten action since February 9th, 2022. Head Coach Lisa Bluder was more than proud of her girls after the game, “We had so many good performances tonight. Hannah Stuelke shot 85 percent from the field and had the second most points than anybody in an Iowa jersey. Kate Martin played really well scoring 16 points and 16 rebounds. I also thought Syd Affolter played really well.”
The #2 Hawkeyes return to action when they travel to Lincoln on Sunday, February 11th to take on the Huskers for a 12:00 p.m. tipoff.
