Lieutenant Governor Chris Cournoyer received the GOP nomination for State Auditor. She won 53.76% of the vote, while opponent Abigail Maas received 45.90%.
Cournoyer was nominated by Governor Kim Reynolds to be Lieutenant Governor in late 2024. She served on the Iowa State Senate from the 35th District from 2019 until she was sworn into her current position.
The 55-year-old promises to work for Iowans’ best interests by providing full transparency and implementing innovative tools like AI. She’s said Iowa deserves a taxpayer watchdog. During her time at her previous positions, she also worked towards legislation to protect the rights and privacy of Iowa citizens.
Cournoyer will face Democratic nominee Taylor Wettach in the general election on November 3, 2026.
