(Creston, IA) – Southwestern Community College has officially hired Brianna Maitlen as the new head coach of their volleyball program for the 2024 season. She takes over a program that went just 3-20 last season and 1-10 in conference play.
Maitlen has been a middle school counselor and volleyball coach for Sioux City Community Schools since 2018. The Creston High School graduate graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in psychology and had a minor in coaching and sports psychology in 2016 from Northwest Missouri State University. With that announcement, Maitlen stated, “I plan to bring to SWCC a non-stop, can-do, positive attitude. The passion I have for the game, coupled with the hometown energy and excitement of Creston, will be huge assets in building back a strong volleyball program at Southwestern.”
This past season, Maitlen led Sioux City West to a 14-12 record while sitting at 2-3 in the Missouri River Conference. Kim Bishop, SWCC Athletics Director had nothing but positive remarks about the new hire, “Her ability to relate to student-athletes will bring stability to the team and her coaching experience has provided an excellent framework to assist as she transitions to coaching at the collegiate level. I can’t wait to see what she does with our program.”
Maitlen will start to recruit for SWCC as of today to prepare for the 2024 fall season.
