(Waco, TX) – With the buzzer-beating three-pointer by Milan Momcilovic, the crowd was silenced in Waco, until it wasn’t. The last-second three-pointer was just .2 seconds away from counting for the #12 Cyclones as the #18 Bears took a 70-68 win at home.
This game had everything to be in a Hollywood blockbuster. Baylor Head Coach Scott Drew was ejected for the first time ever in his career at Baylor while the Cyclones had a 20-0 run for the largest of the season, to erase a 15-point deficit. With the clock not starting on time to the multiple reviews in the last two minutes, this was a game to keep you on the edge of your seat.
Leading Baylor on the night was RayJ Dennis as he had 18 points on the night while hauling in seven boards and also forced six turnovers. Behind Dennis was Jayden Nunn as he went 6-10 from the charity stripe and 4-5 from the field to finish with 16 points and three rebounds. Jalen Bridges knocked down 14 points while also having three takeaways to finish off the double-digit scorers.
For Iowa State, the Cyclones were led on the night by Keshon Gilbert who had 24 total points on the night while going 7-12 from the field and also had two steals to finish off the night. Curtis Jones went 5-6 from the free-throw line while knocking down 11 points as he has now played in over 1,300 minutes of action. Milan Momcilovic went 4-10 from the hardwood while putting in 10 points on the night. Robert Jones finished as one of the top scorers with eight points and seven rebounds.
Looking into the team statistics, The Bears led from the field, shooting 45.7% while the Cyclones shot just 39.3% from the field. Baylor shot an impressive 52.2% from beyond the arc while the Cyclones went just 5-14 from beyond the arc. Iowa State also won the points off turnovers 26-13 and 20-12 with points in the paint. Baylor did do better in te rebounding game with a 36-31 advantage.
Looking ahead, the Cyclones will stay in Texas for their game against the Longhorns on Tuesday night for a 7:00 p.m. tipoff.
