(Iowa City, IA) – The Hawkeyes hosted their first Big Ten matchup against Minnesota today and were able to keep the wins coming as they beat the Golden Gophers 94-71. This is Iowa’s 14th consecutive win at home over Minnesota as they broke the Golden Gophers’ eight-game winning streak.
Iowa was led by three players who already had double-digits at the end of the third quarter. Caitlin Clark knocked down 35 points, grabbed five boards, and dished out ten assists for a double-double. She has now recorded 904 total assists which are the most for a player in the Big Ten or at Iowa. The superstar now leads the state of Iowa in points scored in a career for a Division I basketball player. Clark is also now the NCAA’s fifth leading all-time scorer in women’s basketball history and has 72 straight games where she has made a three-point basket in a game. Behind Clark was Hannah Stuelke as she had 19 points and pulled down eight rebounds after going 9-10 from the hardwood. The last top scorer in the game was Kate Martin as she knocked in 13 points and grabbed six boards.
On the opposite end, Minnesota was led by Amaya Battle as she knocked in 16 points and dished out five assists. Behind Battle was Mara Braun as she pulled down five boards and knocked in 15 points. Sophie Hart also was able to do some damage to the scoresheet as she knocked down 13 points and hauled in six rebounds.
Iowa kept Minnesota to just under 39.4% shooting from the field while also keeping them to under 16% from the perimeter. Iowa shot 58.3% from the field while also going 37.9% from the three-point line.
The Hawkeyes are on to one of their best starts in program history as they are 13-1 to start this season. Lisa Bluder has been part of three of those starts in her career at Iowa.
Iowa will take on Michigan State this Tuesday, January 2nd at 8:00 p.m.
