CLASS A
West Hancock, Britt 39, Madrid 14
Both teams went scoreless until the second quarter when West Hancock was able to start off the quarter with a touchdown. They started off the quarter at the Madrid nine-yard line after the drive by the Eagles after receiving a punt from Madrid. Michael Smith ran in for the nine-yard touchdown and helped put West Hancock up 8-0. They were not done scoring yet, as the Eagles scored once again on their next drive. With good field positioning on their own 48-yard line, they drove down to the Madrid six-yard line as Mitchell Smith threw a touchdown to put them up 16-0 at the half. After halftime, West Hancock wanted to put the nail in the coffin early. Madrid kicked off to the Eagles as West Hancock’s Jaxen Peterson returned the kickoff for an 85-yard touchdown, and after the two-point conversion, put themselves up 24-0. Madrid tried another drive where they did convert on a first down but had to punt the ball away once again. The Eagles got the ball back in their hands once again at their own 28-yard line and after four minutes, they were already down at the Tigers’ one-yard line after a 4th & 13 conversion on a 32-yard pass. Kale Zuehl ran in for another touchdown in the game to put West Hancock up 32-0 after he scored on the two-point conversion. Before the end of the third quarter, Madrid was able to score after rushing in at the two-yard line for a Preston Wicker touchdown and two-point conversion. West Hancock came back in the fourth quarter as they were able to use the rushing game to their advantage and scored once again on a one-yard rush by Zuehl in the endzone for another touchdown going up 39-8. Madrid was not going down without a fight as they were able to score on a 4:13 drive for a Preston Wicker touchdown to put themselves at 14 after the failed two-point conversion to the final 39-14 score. Mitchell Smith led West Hancock in the passing game as he passed for 48 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 53 yards and a touchdown. Kellen Smith had 38 receiving yards and a touchdown as he also rushed for 72 yards. Kale Zuehl rushed for 138 yards and two touchdowns in the game. For Madrid, Preston Wicker rushed for 62 yards and two touchdowns while passing 7-8 for 95 yards. Jayce Fuson led in the receiving game with three receptions for 64 yards. West Hancock moves on to the next round to play Woodbury Central.
Woodbury Central, Moville 28, East Buchanan 20
East Buchanan added the first score of the game on their first drive after a rush by Hunter Bowers for a five-yard touchdown. After the penalty and the unsuccessful extra point, the Buccaneers led 6-0. Woodbury Central answered back on a four-play drive after Drew Kluender threw to Jayden Lloyd for a 53-yard touchdown and Lloyd’s only reception of the game to put them up 7-6. In the second quarter, East Buchanan brought their drive from the first quarter to the second as they utilized 17 plays to give themselves a touchdown with the rush by Trystin Russell and converted on the two-point conversion to put them up 14-7. They would take that lead with them into halftime as the Wildcats recollected and hit the Buccanneers hard. On another five-play drive, Woodbury Central earned another touchdown off a 25-yard pass by Drew Kluender to Eric McGill for a touchdown to put it at a 14-14 game. After two three-and-out drives by East Buchanan and one drive by Woodbury Central, the Wildcats got the ball back into their hands. On a 56-yard drive, the Wildcats earned another touchdown from Drew Kluender on the ground for the three-yard rush at the goal line for the touchdown to put them up 21-14. It all came down to the fourth quarter when East Buchanan added on a touchdown early with an 83-yard rush by Hunter Bowers to put them within one after the missed extra-point attempt. Woodbury Central would then seal the deal on their next drive as they relied on the short passing game to march upfield and gave the play to Drew Kluender to rush in for another touchdown to help put them up 28-20 and seal the deal over the Buccaneers. Woodbury Central was led in the passing game by Drew Kluender as he went 10-15 for 205 yards and two touchdowns while also rushing for 51 yards and two touchdowns. Zack Butler led Woodbury Central in the rushing game with 95 yards while Eric McGill led in receiving yards with 75 and a touchdown and Jayden Lloyd and Sam Monk also had 50+ receiving yards and Lloyd earned a touchdown. For East Buchanan, Hunter Bowers led in the rushing game with 158 rushing yards and two touchdowns while quarterback Trystin Russell went 2-7 for 37 yards and earned a rushing touchdown in the game. Woodbury Central goes on to the next round to play West Hancock.
CLASS 4A
Lewis Central 31, North Polk 5
Lewis Central took over the whole first half of action. The Titans had a 10-play drive after Kamdyn Cross rushed in for a two-yard touchdown. On the following drive after 7:00 minutes, the Titans ended up kicking a field goal through the uprights on the foot of Daniel Espinoza to go up 10-0. The next drive for Lewis Central featured back-to-back 20+ yard passes by Brady Hetzel to Lual Maker for 27 yards and Ryan Ortega for 24 yards. Those large passes led to a Kamdyn Cross run for a touchdown to put up Lewis Central 17-0 at the half. Noah Blomquist was able to add on the first points of the game for North Polk as he was able to knock in a 37-yard field goal to start scoring in the second half. Lewis Central would then go on to add two touchdowns, one with a 22-yard run by Curtie Witte, and another on reception by Ryan Ortega after the eight-yard pass by Hetzel. The only other score was for North Polk as they were able to earn a safety at the end of the game, but ended up falling to Lewis Central 31-5. Brady Hetzel passed 21-31 for 208 yards and one touchdown for Lewis Central. Leading rusher for the Titans was Kamdyn Cross who rushed for 68 yards and two touchdowns followed by Curtis Witte for 24 yards and a touchdown. Lual Maker had 96 receiving yards while Ryan Ortega had 41 receiving yards and a touchdown. For North Polk, Reggie Postal and Isaac Zoske passed for a combined 84 yards. B.J. Tate rushed for 40 yards in the game. Lewis Central will play Western Dubuque in the State Championship.
Western Dubuque 28, Bondurant-Farrar 21
As Bondurant-Farrar lost in the game as a whole, the Bluejays started with the first two touchdowns of the game featuring two 37-yard passes from Jordan Rial that led to the touchdown rush by Caleb Moore to put the Bluejays up 7-0. They also went on their other drive with a pass once again from Rial to Batpiny Riak for a 50-yard touchdown that put them up 14-0. Western Dubuque went on to score on back-to-back drives with passing touchdowns from quarterback Tanner Anderson that both went to Brandon Decker to tie the game at 14-14 at the half. Western Dubuque came out of the half and added on a 6-play drive that led to a touchdown for the Bobcats to give them their first lead 20-14. Bondurant-Farrar went down to score once again in the third on a less than three-minute drive to score from a Rial pass to Caleb Moore for a touchdown and went up 21-20. In the fourth quarter, Western Dubuque sealed the deal with a Grant Glausser 11-yard rush for a touchdown and scored on the two-point conversion to put them up 28-21 for the final score. Western Dubuque’s Tanner Anderson led in the passing game going 11-19 for 109 yards and two touchdowns. Grant Glausser rushed for a total of 204 yards and two touchdowns in the game. Brandon Decker led in the receiving game with 42 yards and two touchdowns. For Bondurant-Farrar, they were led by Jordan Rial as he went 15-24 for a total of 264 yards and two touchdowns. Batpiny Rial led in the receiving game with 120 receiving yards and a touchdown while Caleb Moore threw for 110 yards and a touchdown. Western Dubuque will play Lewis Central in the State Championship.
