(Atlantic) Red Oak broke away midway through all three sets to defeat Atlantic in a Tuesday Hawkeye Ten Conference Volleyball match at Atlantic.
The Tigers rallied from a 9-7 deficit in the first set with a 7-0 run and an 11-6 finish down the stretch to win 25-15. Red Oak broke open a one-point lead in set two and polished it off with a 9-3 run. The third set was much the same. Atlantic hung in there, trailing 12-11 before the Tigers rolled out a 13-7 finish for the win.
Atlantic Head Coach Michelle Blake says Paytn Harter, the Trojans’ 6’0 front-line player, needs to get the ball more.
The Trojans lost their season opener to Des Moines, Roosevelt, and went 3-3 at the AHSTW Tournament over the weekend. Despite the 3-5 start, Coach Blake sees a lot of improvement with this young squad, with only one player returning with varsity experience.
Atlantic’s next competition is their home tournament on Saturday.
Red Oak was a perfect 73-73 serving, scoring 36-96 kills, 31 assists, three block assists, and four total. The team also posted 49 digs. The Tigers notched their fourth straight victory and travel to Glenwood for a tournament on Saturday.
