(Naples, Italy) – While the Big Ten is changing back home, the Hawkeys are staying focused with their eyes on the prize even if that prize is in a different country. The women’s basketball team is currently on their Foreign Tour while they are playing different teams from around Italy and Croatia.
In their first game of the tour, the Hawkeyes beat the Team Slammers from Italy 116-46 as seven players reached double figures. Caitlin Clark led the team with 17 points, five rebounds, and seven assists. Sydney Affolter had a double-double with 15 points and 16 rebounds. Addi O’Grady also notched 16 points and shot 100% from the field. Gabbie Marshall led the team with eight assists while Taylor McCabe tied for a team-high four three-pointers.
Coach Lisa Bluder said, “Everybody played pretty well, it was nice to see everyone get out there and compete. Getting off the bus today it was like huh, the last time we played we were competing for a National Championship. Tonight was a lot of fun for our new group.” The Hawkeyes will take on KK Tresnjevka (Tresh-NYEV-kah) 2009 on August 11th at noon and travel to take on the Croatian All-Stars on August 13th at 1:30 pm.
