(Des Moines) Drought conditions remained stable to a slight degradation, according to the latest U.S. Drought Monitor released on Thursday.
State Climatologist Justin Glisan says there was not a lot of change in drought conditions across the state, reflecting temperatures four to six degrees below average. He says the state is now 100 percent coverage of at least abnormally dry, to D-zero to dry to the D3 category in western Iowa.
Glisan says once we get past this warmth we are seeing this week, a cold front is dropping through the area starting tomorrow; temperatures will fall to the mid-80s but rebound to the low 90s next week.
Temperatures are forecast to reach the upper nineties today, with 110 degrees and higher heat index values in some areas.
