(Fargo) This past week, two Nodaway Valley wrestlers made their mark at the National Free Style and Greco-Roman Wrestling Tournament in Fargo, North Dakota.
Ashton Honnold, and Trent Warner, wrestling at 220 and 285, respectively, for Team Iowa, were two of 3000 competitors from 49 U.S. States. Both wrestlers made it to the final round of 12 in the Free-Style Tournament, one step away from all-American Status. Both wrestlers were in 128-man brackets.
Nodaway Valley Head Coach Brad Honnold…
Honnold, who placed 8th at the Iowa High School State Wrestling Tournament this past year as a freshman, made it through to the round of 16 and fell short in the quarterfinals. He lost his first match in the final round of 12.
Trent Warner, wrestling HWT., advanced to the round of 32, lost his match, and rallied on the back side with four straight wins. He also made it to the final round of 12 before falling short in the national tourney.
Coach Honnold says Ashton and Trent have high expectations heading into this season.
Ashton Honnold will be a sophomore this fall, and Trent Warner will enter his junior season.
