(Atlantic) The Atlantic boys track team heads to an indoor meet at Northwest Missouri State on Saturday.
The Trojans got their feet wet at the IATC Indoor Meet in Ames last week and came away with nine of their 15 entries placing in the top 15. Coach Abby Becker says it showed what they can improve on. “Just those little pieces that you can start adding to your workouts and being able to analyze it. That’s what I appreciate about this meet is you can see where you are at and see what you need to work on. You can take those pieces, motivate you, light a fire under your butt, and then push yourself even farther.”
The opportunity in Maryville on Saturday will give more team members a chance to compete. “I really, really like that meet. That’s a wonderful facility. We are blessed to have multiple 300 meter tracks within a couple hours of us.”
They’ll have more of a full lineup in action. “I’m excited about getting some new kids in there and getting some times on them.”
Coach Becker points out the senior leadership has been strong. “They are wonderful leaders. They are excited. They want this. They’ve gotten a taste and have gotten to compete at state. They know what the end result is and they want to get there again. You can see that in practice every single day. I love that motivation and that fire.”
A few of the highlights from their first meet included Jayden Proehl clearing 6-00 to place 3rd in the high jump, Caden Andersen running 4th in the 800 in 2:04.86, and a 3rd place 4X800 meter relay with a group of Caden Andersen, Alex Sonntag, Colin Rudy, and Bennett Whetstone.
