(Des Moines) A relatively narrow area of moderate to heavy snowfall is expected to develop over portions of central into northern Iowa Friday night into Saturday .
Carroll and Crawford Counties are on the southern edge of a Winter Weather Advisory from Midnight tonight to 9:00 p.m. on Saturday. Southwest Iowa is NOT included in the Advisory.
The National Weather Service is forecasting snowfall will spread from west to east, with the heaviest amounts around the Highway 20 to Highway 3 corridors, with five to seven inches or greater possible, especially west of Interstate 35. Snowfall will then exit eastward Saturday afternoon and evening. Snowfall rates of an inch an hour or greater are likely within the heaviest band.
Snow accumulations of three to five inches are forecast for northwest and portions of west-central Iowa, including Carroll and Crawford Counties. Southwest Iowa is not included in the Winter Weather Advisory.
Plan on slippery road conditions. If precautions are not taken, cold wind chills as low as 15 below zero could result in hypothermia.
