(Harlan) Harlan rallied in the second half to defeat #14 Atlantic 57-46 in a girls’ basketball game at Harlan on Friday night.
The Trojans opened up a 26-16 lead in the first half. Sophomore forward Paytn Harter and Maddie Richter provided the scoring punch for the visitors. Harter pocketed five field goals and a free throw. Richter came off the bench and splashed down three long-range shots. Atlantic Head Coach Dan Vargason says they were playing well on both ends of the floor.
The Cyclones ended the first half on a 10-0 run and closed the gap to 27-24.
The Cyclones outscored the Trojans 19-9 in the third quarter and changed the game’s complexion. 15 of the 10 points came from behind the three-point line. Hannah Sonderman, Aubrey Schwieso, Ava Monson, Ella Plagman, and Molly Swensen each dropped in a bomb.
Paytn Harter led the Trojans with 20 points, Abbi Richter, with 9, Jada Jensen with 6, Maddie Huddleson with 6, and Aubrey Guyer, with 5.
Aubrey Schwieso led Harlan with 16 points; Hannah Sonderman, 14; Savannah Christensen, 8; Ava Monson, 7; Molly Swenson, 6; Erica Rust, 4; and Ella Plagman, 3.
The Cyclones extend their record to 9-3 on the season. Atlantic falls to 9-4. Harlan hosts Kuemper on Monday. Atlantic hosts Red Oak on Tuesday.
