(Oakland) The Riverside boys wrestling team will have their first competition on Thursday when they host Underwood and Glenwood.
It’s a pretty young group this year for the Bulldogs. Coach Casey Conover admits there has been a lot of good competition in practice. “Being such a young team we are focusing a lot on technique. I’m very impressed with the young kids we have right now. I have 12 freshmen and 8 sophomores. They show up every day and work hard every day. They compete hard. They are fighting in the room which is exciting to see.”
It could be baptism by fire early in the season with some very quality opponents. “Glenwood is ranked high in 2A and Underwood in ranked high in 1A. Then we go to Sergeant Bluff this weekend. They have a lot of great teams, some nationally ranked teams.”
Coach Conover is eager to see how his team competes this week. “Just to see how tough we are. How well are we going to fight? Wrestling is a grind. How much improvement can we make? It’s all about growth. That’s the big thing I want to see is how we do in those tough situations.”
Riverside has a pair of returning state qualifiers from last year with Davis Bramman and Taven Moore.
