(Oakland) AHSTW overcame an 11-2 hole to beat Riverside 35-22 on Tuesday evening.
Ellie Peterson and Rylie Knop each scored nine points for the 1-2 Lady Vikes. A 6-0 stretch for AHSTW late in the first quarter got them back into the game. They would score seven of the first nine points in the 2nd quarter to take the lead for good.
Riverside posted 13 points in the opening frame, but added just 12 points to it over the final three quarters. AHSTW coach Jill Vanderhoof comments on the difference, “For us it was just making sure we were quick. We did better containing the drives. We switched up our press a little bit and were able to anticipate passes more and get steals.”
AHSTW led 28-24 with just a few minutes left and ended the game on a 9-1 advantage to stretch the final margin to double figures.
Riverside starts the year at 0-1. Lydia Erickson scored 10 points and Adeline Martens contributed six.
