(Greenfield) Six of Nodaway Valley’s eight wins in boys basketball last season came in the month of January.
The Wolverines will try to carry over some momentum in year two under coach Jeremy Blake. Coach Blake says communication and working together as one have taken big steps forward. “That’s really been exciting. Guys are understanding the drills we are trying to do and our leadership has been huge.” Blake says, “That helps out a lot.”
Boston DeVault led the team in scoring at 16 points per game. Avery Phillipi averaged 12.5 points and 6 rebounds per game. They both return. “Avery and Boston will be a huge part of everything we are doing. Those two guys were all-conference last year.” Blake says, “Those two guys are going to get a lot of attention and rightfully so, but what I’ve been really impressed with those two guys in practice is getting their teammates involved.”
Dawson Nelson comes back after seeing major minutes as a sophomore. “He’s progressed really well in our practices and everything. I know he’s going to have a really great year for us. We have Doug Berg out. He didn’t come out last year. We are really, really excited to have him out there. Another great athlete, another great leader. So he’s been a huge get for us to have him back out this year and he’s fitting right in right away.”
Paul Berg, Blake Lund, and Mason Wilson are some other players returning from last year. The team will scrimmage at Creston on Saturday with a Jamboree at Exira-EHK next week.
