(Audubon) Audubon girls basketball has a pair of four year varsity regulars to replace from last season’s squad.
The Wheelers have won at least 15 games in three straight years, but they will have to find a way to replace stars Jaci Christensen and Aleah Hermansen. “We are working on a lot. We are working on a lot of fundamentals. We lost a lot of points and rebounds from last year’s team and we are kind of starting brand new. We are slowly getting into it and working on fundamentals.”
Head coach Darran Miller brings back just one starter, but they do have some experience returning. “We have four seniors who got quite a bit of time last year, so that’s going to be helpful for us. Audrey Jensen, Madi Steckler, Sienna Albertsen, and Rylee Brittan played quite a bit last year and have been in the varsity level. They are going to have to be good leaders for us and provide a lot of our scoring and ball handling skills. We have just one sophomore out, Alissa Testroet, who didn’t play much varsity at all. Then we have four freshmen out. That’s the makeup of our team. We have nine out total and we have an interesting squad with some veterans and some newcomers.”
The newcomers have some promise. “Harlow Miller, Anna Larsen, Kade Sporrer and Evelyn Gomez are out. Those freshmen have a lot of potential. Sporrer has played a lot of club ball and Harlow brings some size to the team. It gives us a good mix of players with our returning seniors. We know we have some good guard play and post play defensively. We have some good shooters that will help us with Audrey, Madi, and Sienna and then we have some post play too.”
The Wheelers will scrimmage Glidden-Ralston next week. Their first official game is Monday, November 28th against Coon Rapids-Bayard.
