(Massena) Official practice started Monday for the first year of girls wrestling as a sanctioned sport in Iowa High School athletics.
Before the season even gets rolling, the SWAT Valkyries program has a big feather in their cap with Ady Lundquist earning All-American status at Preseason Nationals over the weekend. The SW Valley senior placed 4th in her weight class. “She works hard. She’s just an amazing wrestler. She’s a huge asset to our team and I’m looking forward to what she’s going to do this year.”
That’s SWAT head coach Tiffany South whose team also got a strong performance from Grace Britten. “She is an outstanding wrestler and hard worker. Unfortunately she didn’t make All-American status, but still represented SWAT amazingly at that tournament.”
Coach South reports they have a lot of interest in their inaugural season. “We have been blessed to have so many girls who are giving wrestling a chance. If we were to have a problem, too many girls would be the problem, and that is an amazing problem to have.”
SWAT (South West Area Team) is made up of student athletes from CAM, Atlantic, Nodaway Valley, SW Valley, and Griswold. Practices will be held at CAM South in Massena.
