(Anita) Firefighters responded to a combine fire southeast of Anita on Sunday afternoon.
Anita Fire Chief Eric Steffenson says the call went out at 4:40 p.m. of a combine fire at 765th Street and Glendale Road. He says when firefighters arrived, the machine was fully engulfed in flames. The operator had a fire extinguisher on board, but the fire was too big to put out. Steffenson called the Adair and Wiota Fire Departments for mutual aid as the fire spread to some soybean stubble and standing soybeans surrounding the combine. He says the blaze did not cause much crop damage.
