(Iowa City, IA) — An Iowa City man will receive 12-million dollars for serving six years in prison for a sex crime he didn’t commit. A Johnson County District Court jury deliberated for two hours before awarding the money to Donald Clark. He had been sentenced to 25 years in prison. That sentence was vacated in 2016 and Clark was found innocent of the crime. The court determined that Clark had received a substandard defense from the state public defender’s office during the 2009 trial.
