(Middletown, IA) — A strike has been avoided at the Iowa Army Munitions Plant in Middletown. The 10 unions representing workers at the facility in southeast Iowa reached an agreement on a new three-year contract. The old contract expired Friday at midnight. Reports indicate the workers at the plant make some of the components for missiles that have been shipped to Ukraine. The work is described as “dangerous.” An explosion at the plant in 2006 killed two workers and destroyed one of the buildings at the site east of Burlington.
