(Brayton) Deidre Dejear, running for Iowa Governor on the Democratic Primary ballot, made a campaign stop in Brayton Wednesday evening.
Deidre was born in Jackson, Mississippi and later moved with her family to Oklahoma. She moved to Iowa to attend Drake University, where she majored in Broadcast News and Politics and graduated with a B.A. in Journalism. She fell in love with the state and chose Iowa as her home.
Deidre spoke about the need to address the number of teachers leaving the profession and to keep rural schools from closing.
Deidre said education is critically important to her and she said we need to ensure we’re preparing our students for that limitless future and that starts with Preschool. She said as Governor she would make sure each and every child has access to at least 30 hours of Pre-K every single week. Deidre also wants to make sure they get the trades back in school; not just the skilled trades but also add things like phlebotomy and childcare.
Deidre also spoke about issues relating to healthcare, environmental sustainability and supporting small businesses.
