(Harlan) Harlan Mayor Mike Kolbe resigned his position effective March 31, and will begin his campaign for Shelby County Supervisor.
Kolbe, running on the Republican ticket, has served on numerous local and county-wide committees and boards during the past 39 years, including the past eight years as a Harlan City Council member and Mayor. He currently sits on the Shelby Co. Trails and Shelby Co. Wellness Alliance committees. He also serves on the Southwest Iowa Planning Council (SWIPCO) Small Business Revolving Loan Fund Committee, and is a past board member and chairperson of the SWIPCO Board.
“It is with great anticipation that I pursue a seat on the Shelby County Board of Supervisors, bringing my civic and government experience to the county level. Through my professional and volunteer efforts, I have been able to connect with thousands of Shelby Co. residents. It would be an honor to be their voice in county matters. I would bring an objective perspective to the Board, with honest, open communication between county government and the residents of Shelby County,” Kolbe said.
“I know the time commitment it takes to be an effective representative for the public. I’m at a place in life where I still have the energy to undertake the challenge and have the ability to make it fit with my work schedule,” he said. “My previous and current employers have been very supportive of my community efforts, and for that I am grateful,” he added.
Kolbe encourages everyone to exercise their right to vote in the June 7 primary election, and again in the general election November 8.
