(Mills Co.) Two people were arrested following a pursuit in Mills County.
The Mills County Sheriff’s Office says at approximately 4:35 this (Friday) morning, a Sergeant with the Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation. The vehicle refused to stop and a pursuit was declared. A short time later, the vehicle eventually stopped, at which time the driver ran on foot into a field. The Mills County K9 unit was called in to assist, along with Fremont County Deputies, Iowa State Patrol and Montgomery County EMA, to establish a perimeter in hopes of containing the suspect. A female passenger remained in the vehicle and was taken into custody without incident.
Upon arrival, the Montgomery County EMA launched their drone, which is equipped with night vision capabilities in an attempt to locate the suspect. After approximately two minutes, the drone located a hot spot in the tree line approximately ½ mile from where the vehicle was left. It was determined to be a male subject laying face down. A K9 search team was formed and started down the tree line to locate the suspect. With the assistance of the drone, Deputies were able to safely locate the suspect and take him into custody without incident. The subject was identified as Vince Crowe, of Seattle, Washington, and Deputies located an empty handgun holster on his person. Mills County K9 Danken was then deployed to conduct an evidence search at which time he located the handgun that the suspect tossed into the tree line.
A probable cause search of the suspect vehicle resulted in the recovery of approximately 30.4 grams of heroin, 52.7 grams of marijuana, 90 Oxycodone pills, a small amount of methamphetamine, digital scale, and multiple pieces of drug paraphernalia.
Once at the Mills County Jail, the female passenger gave a false name, but was eventually identified as Mariah Hernandez of Dalles, Oregon.
Vince Crowe is charged with Felony Eluding, Possession with Intent (Heroin), Possession with Intent (Marijuana), Possession with Intent (Oxycodone), three counts of Failure to Affix Drug Stamp, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Interference with Official Acts and multiple driving citations.
Mariah Hernandez is charged with Possession of Methamphetamine 3rd or Subsequent Offense and Providing False Information to Law Enforcement.
The Mills County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office, the Iowa State Patrol and Montgomery County EMA for their assistance with this incident.
