(Atlantic) The Atlantic/CAM wrestling team is peaking at the right time. One week ago, at the John J. Harris Wrestling Tournament, the Trojans finished second behind Creston 212-210. Atlantic/CAM edged the Panthers 238-228 for the Hawkeye Ten Conference Tournament title on Saturday.
Four Atlantic/CAM wrestlers earned a spot in the champion matches, including champions Aiden Smith (106), Ethan Follman (126), and Kadin Stutzman (170). Easton O’Brien finished runner-up at (132). But it was in the consolation matches making a difference in the meet. Earning third-place finishes were Dante Hedrington (138), Brian South (152), Jarrett Armstrong (182), Brenden Casey (195), and Freshman Evan Sorensen, at (285). Creston placed four wrestlers in the Championship matches and came away with an individual title from Austin Evans (138). Three finished runner-up, Lincoln Wheeler (120), Tristen Barncastle (145), and Max Chapman (220). Justin Parsons, (106), Christian Ahrens, (113), Trey Chestnut, (132), and Kadin, Street, (170).
Vincent Mayberry of Glenwood topped Zach Williams of St. Albert in the 113 championship bout, Riley Parkis of Kuemper downed Lincoln Keeler at 120, and Luke Musich of Harlan stood atop the podium at 132 pounds.
Kale Downey of Clarinda defeated Jake Irlbeck of Kuemper at 145, Shea Parkis of Kuemper captured the title at (152), and Dawson Bond earned the top spot at 160.
Zane Bendorf of Harlan dominated the 182-pound class and finished the day with a 46-second pin over Jase Wilmes of Clarinda. At 195, C.J. Carter of Glenwood defeated Jaxon Hildebrand of Denison in a hard-fought match 5-2, and Cal Wanninger of Kuemper won fall over Max Chapman of Creston, at 220.
Logan Green of Clarinda finished off the tournament with a 5-0 decision over Sam Barrientos of Lewis Central.
