(Red Oak) It all started with a string of lights on the fence, and today the Baird Christmas Lighted display spans for over a quarter of a mile across this rural Montgomery County landscape on E Avenue 10-miles northwest of Red Oak.
Sandy Baird, the wife of Jack Baird, who turns 90-years old on December 12, recently announced the opening of the display this weekend. “This project started over 40-years ago with a string of lights on a fence,” said Baird. “Every year after that, they added something to it, and this year we’ve added one more thing to our collection.”
Baird says watching the children’s reaction to this extraordinary display makes all of the work worthwhile. “We stand out there and watch the cars go with the windows open and listen to the children “ooh and ahh,” it makes us feel good, that yes there is a Christmas,” said Baird.
The Baird family and friends start setting up this extraordinary display in the fall. Baird says the family scours through catalogs and the internet to find the unique trinkets and structures to add to the exhibit. “We have a decorated combine, tractor, and two Christmas houses on display from day one, “said Baird. “We added a helicopter last year, and something news is on display this year, but I’m going to say what it is because we want people to find out for themselves.”
Again, the display is located at 1233 E Avenue northwest of Red Oak.
