(Cass Co.) The Cass County Board of Supervisors this morning approved a resolution instituting proceedings to take additional action on not to exceed $2,000,000 General Obligation Capital Loan Notes. This is in order to provide funds to pay for the cost of emergency service communications systems including implementing the Iowa Statewide Interoperable Communications System.
The approval followed a public hearing. There were no written or oral objections, but the board did hear from emergency services personnel who are in favor of moving forward with this including JC Wyman, President of the Fire Association for Cass County…

In other activity, the Supervisors held a lengthy public hearing on the vacation and closure of a portion of county roadway; 570th Street contained within the State of Iowa right-of-way for Interstate 80. During the hearing the Board heard from several landowners and homeowners who are opposed to the closure.
Keegan and Katie Pace own a home just south of the interstate and one of their concerns is if that roadway under the interstate is closed there may not be another way out if the creek to the south of them on 570th Street floods over the bridge.

If the County would choose to close that roadway, the County would receive money from the DOT to use for other bridge projects.
Scott Suhr with the DOT said about six years ago the DOT did a study of Interstate 80 from the Nebraska border to the Illinois border and as part of that study one of the things they looked at were low volume roadways over or under the Interstate that they could close because of the high cost of the construction of a bridge.
Ultimately, the Supervisors tabled a resolution vacating and closing that portion of 570th Street in order to gather more information on changes in land valuations and what they can do to compensate these landowners if the roadway were to close.
