(Denison) The Iowa State Patrol released the Labor Day Holiday traffic statistics this past week. The Crash Awareness and Reduction Effort yielded 3,147 traffic stops, 2,421 were speeding violations, and 127 seatbelt violations.
“There was a concerted effort to not only identify dangerous driving behaviors but also enforce state laws when it comes to infractions ultimately leading to serious injury and fatal crashes,” said Iowa State Patrol Trooper and Public Information Officer Shelby McCreedy.
McCreedy says the statistic that jumps out the most is the five traffic fatalities. “We talked about wanting to bring that number down, and this past Labor Day Weekend was deadly, unfortunately,” said McCreedy. “There were 29 driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol arrests statewide over those three days, and that number is alarming as well.”
Thirty crashes occurred on Iowa’s roadways over the Labor Day Holiday weekend, and seven resulted in injury. In addition to that, law enforcement conducted six felony arrests.
