(Anita) An Anita woman suffered serious injuries in a semi/van accident on Friday.
The Cass County Sheriff’s Office says the accident happened Friday evening at White Pole Road and 725th Street. Authorities say Melanie Jo Lewis of Anita suffered serious injuries in the accident.
According to the report, Lewis driving an eastbound 2005 Chrysler Pacifica on White Pole Road, slowed to turn left onto 725th Street. Fernando Perez Castaneda, of Blue Springs, Missouri, driving an eastbound 2018 International Semi-tractor trailer, entered the westbound lane and attempted to pass Lewis’s vehicle striking the driver’s side. The impact forced Lewis’s vehicle to rest in the north field, and the semi ended up in the north ditch with the trailer blocking the westbound lane.
Cass EMS transported Lewis to the Anita Airport, where Life Flight transported her to an unnamed hospital with serious injuries. Castaneda was uninjured in the accident.
