(Des Moines) A heat advisory is in effect from noon to 8:00 p.m. for all of southwest Iowa today. The National Weather says hot temperatures and high humidity could push the heat index to 106 degrees.
Thunderstorm chances may also ramp up later this afternoon into tonight, mainly over northern into central Iowa. Storms will have the potential to be strong to severe with the capability of producing damaging wind gusts, locally heavy rain, and flash flooding in urban areas.
The threat of severe thunderstorms will continue into Friday and Friday night along with the potential for heavy rain.
