(Atlantic) The Cass County Conference Board approved the appointment of Mary Anstey as the new County Assessor Thursday evening.
Anstey is filling the vacancy following former Assessor Brenda Nelson’s resignation in May. Steve Baier said they had two people with local ties in Cass County that did the work to get fully qualified.
Anstey’s first day on the job will be September 1st. Anstey was given the authority to hire a Deputy Assessor with the approval of the Conference Board.
The Conference Board also held a lengthy discussion on restructuring the Assessor’s Office.

After much discussion, a motion was made to restructure the office by releasing the two Cass County field appraisers (Tom Williams and Rich Tupper) and instead contract with other services for field appraisal. The motion was approved 3-0.
Although each individual had their vote, the votes are tallied toward one majority vote for the Mayors, Supervisors and Schools.
