(Red Oak) The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office searches for a Bedford, Iowa man connected with a pursuit on Tuesday afternoon.
The Sheriff’s Office has filed charges and warrants against the suspect identified as 29-year old James Robert Castillo of Bedford. Castillo is a white male. Approximately 5’06 inches tall, 150 pounds, with brown hair.
A Montgomery County Sheriff’s Deputy attempted to make a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of M Avenue and Highway 34. The vehicle fled from the deputy, and the pursuit continued for approximately 10-miles heading south and east with speeds of 80-miles per hour. The incident ended in a cornfield south of 260th Street and west of Q Avenue, just south of Viking Lake.
Several area law enforcement agencies, along with K-9’s from Montgomery and Mills Counties, and a drone, searched the area for suspects. Law enforcement identified the vehicle owner as Bobbi Jo Bartles of Blanchard, Iowa, and Castillo was identified as the driver during the search.
After three hours, authorities called off the search due to the heat and the known identity of the suspect. Castillo is believed to be in the Stanton area and is known in the Page County area. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Castillo is urged to call the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office or their local law enforcement agency.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office thanks the Mills County Sheriff’s Office and K-9 Unit, Adams County Sheriff’s Office, Page County Sheriff’s Office, an Off duty Red Oak Police Officer, the Iowa State Patrol, Iowa State Department of Transportation Enforcement, and Montgomery County Emergency Management for their assistance.
