(Atlantic) Atlantic School District Head Nurse Laura Freund is looking forward to a school year without masks and some of the other mitigation strategies related to COVID-19. Freund notes there will still be the same cleaning procedures, but the mask mandate was actually lifted at the end of the 2020-2021 school year.
Freund says the Iowa Department of Public Health came out late last school year directing school districts to treat COVID-19 like any other childhood illness.
Meanwhile, Laura Freund runs down the vaccination requirements before starting school. She says there is a different list of requirements for each grade level.
Freund says they like to see a vision exam for the students from Kindergarten through third grade.
The first day of school is August 23 for Atlantic students.
