(Omaha) The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm watch for southwest and west-central Iowa until 5:00 a.m. on Saturday.
Thunderstorms are developing and forecast to continue overnight. There is a potential for severe weather, especially over the southern half of Iowa. All modes of severe weather may be possible, including damaging winds, large hail, and even an isolated tornado. Locally heavy rainfall is also expected, especially south of Interstate 80.
Periodic chances for thunderstorms remain in the forecast from Saturday into next week. However, the threat of severe weather appears low at this time.
Spotter activation may be needed this evening, mainly across the southern half of Iowa.
