(Atlantic) The Atlantic Softball team picked up their 30th win with a 10-0 shut out over Lewis Central on Friday night at Atlantic. The Trojans notched their 12-consecutive victory and finished the regular season as Hawkeye Ten Conference Champions, with an overall record of 30-5.
Olivia Engler pitched the six-inning shutout. The senior allowed no runs on four hits and struck out 10 batters.
The Trojans scored 10 runs on 12 hits. Engler led the way with a single, a double, and blasted her 12th home run of the season, along with two RBI. Alyssa Derby and Malena Woodward each hit two singles and drove in two runs. Kennedy Goergen and Lauren Nicholas each drilled two hits, and Jada Jensen and Maddie Botos each hit singles.
“Early on, we were a little unlucky on the bases, the girls were aggressive, and Lewis Central made some great plays, some really nice throws, and some tags,” said Atlantic Head Coach Terry Hinzmann. “We ran ourselves out of some opportunities for some big innings early.”
Atlantic scored two runs in the first, three in the third, one in the fourth, two in the fifth, and two runs in the bottom of the sixth to end the game.
“But even though we didn’t have our best luck on the bases and our best start at the plate, I thought our girls battled and stayed with it, nobody panicked, and we opened things up later in the contest,” said Hinzmann
