(Guthrie Center) EmmaKay McClain retired the first eight batters she faced and ACGC downed Panorama 5-3 in softball on Monday.
The Chargers got the bats going early with a two run 1st, they’d add one in the 3rd, and tacked on two more in the 4th. They played error free ball behind McClain who gave up six hits, two walks, and struck out one.
McClain scored the 1st run as she reached 2nd base on a dropped fly ball to deep center. After a groundout for the 2nd out of the 1st inning the next four Chargers all reached safely. Mady Kelsey and Mersadez Richter delivered RBI hits to make it a 2-0 advantage early on.
Panorama’s first run came in the 3rd inning when Arilyan Steenblock posted a two out single followed by a Shey Storesund walk and a Jaidyn Sellers RBI hit.
ACGC responded in the bottom of the 3rd to build a 2-1 cushion into a 3-1 edge. Jorja Hoover walked, went to 2nd on a ground ball, and scored on a throwing error.
A pair of runs in the 5th extended the lead to 5-1. Tori Fuller singled and back-to-back walks to Olivia Van Meter and Mersadez Richter loaded the bases. Panorama starter Grace Richey nearly wiggled out of trouble. She got a strikeout and a pop up, but with two outs Sophie Dorsey drew an RBI walk and EmmaKay McClain reached on a dropped third strike which brought in another run.
Panorama plated single tallies in the 6th and 7th innings to snug it up to a 5-3 final. Three of their six hits for the game came in the 6th off the bats of Claire Woodworth, Jazmyn Sellers, and Grace Webner.
The Chargers move to 6-5 on the season while Panorama dips to 5-8. ACGC returns to action on Tuesday against West Central Valley.
