(Area) Fish survey data collected by the Iowa DNR is now available online and comes in a new format.
Fisheries Biologist Bryan Hayes says the records hadn’t been available on the IowaDNR.gov website since 2018. “Beginning this week it is now being published again. People can take a look our data and see what we are seeing when we are surveying lakes. It’s going to be a really nice tool for people.”
An all new system allows users to sort between species of fish and fish size. “There’s a lot you can do with it. The thing I find the most interesting and think will be the species link by size reports. You can click on the species of fish you are targeting and figure out where to go. Where there might be potentially trophy bluegills or the biggest large mouth bass in the area.”
Hayes says spring electrofishing surveys give the best look at the large mouth bass population. Fall netting survey results give the best reflection of the pan fish population Survey results are directly entered into a tablet and immediately available at IowaDNR.gov.
