(Atlantic) The 2021 Atlantic Girl’s Golf team brings something new to the table for Head Coach Kathy Hobson.
Coach Hobson has consistently produced competitive golf teams highlighted by three state titles, and it appears this year’s team has potential. However, thanks to the pandemic that shut down the course last season, the Coach is heading into some uncharted territory. “I don’t know anything about any of them, except for junior Reagan Leonard,” said Hobson. “I know some of them played junior golf, but as far as their development, and potential contribution to the team this year is unknown.”
Hobson points to Reagan Leonard, who will be looked upon as a leader; after that, she’s looking forward to seeing with the other eight players can do. “I would like to get them on the course, play a couple of rounds to see what kind of scores they can bring in,” said Hobson. “It would give me a chance to see their strengths and areas of necessity we would need to spend more time on. A lot will depend upon the weather.’
Hobson says senior Roni Hook, a transfer in, has a lot of ability. “Roni has state tournament experience during her freshman and sophomore seasons at Griswold,” said Hobson. ”
The balance of the roster features first-time player senior Chloe Gardner, four sophomores, Alexis Knoelck, Abby Smith, April Vanderholm, Claire Wiederstein, and two freshmen, Abigail Muller and Isabelle Berg. “They’re tall kids which give them leverage which is favorable in the game of golf and I’m looking forward to that,” said Hobson. “They’re also good students in the classroom which is half the battle.’
The Trojans open the season at home on April 8 against Creston.
