(Exira) (22-0) Exira/EHK square off against (22-3) Lenox for a state tournament trip. The Spartans defeated Murray 64-31 and Stanton, 53-43. Lenox topped Moravia, 66-40, and downed Sigourney, 52-33. The two squads face off in a Class 1A Regional final at Winterset tonight.
Exira/EHK isn’t large in numbers but large in talent and “want to” with a roster of eight players and without Tatum Grubbs, who is out with an injury. Hall of Fame Head Coach Tom Petersen is proud of what this group has accomplished this season.
The Spartans average 65-points per game offensively, but the most impressive is how this team plays defense. Exira/EHK has allowed the opposition an average of 37 points per outing during this 22-0 run.
Coach Petersen enjoys watching his team play defense, and he knows it’s going to take that same kind of effort tonight against Lenox. The Tigers average 55-points per game while allowing a stingy 35.2 points per contest.
Coach Petersen points to rebounding and attacking the rim as points of emphasis for the Spartans.
Macy Emgarten leads the Spartans in scoring, averaging 17.9 points per game while shooting 44.2 percent from the field, and 37.2 percent from behind the three-point line. Quinn Grubbs averages 15-points per game, connects 41.9 percent of her shots, and 36.7 percent from behind the three-point line. Mollie Rasmussen averages 14-points per game, makes 45.9 percent of her tries, with 38.7 percent accuracy from behind the three-point line.
