(Red Oak) Creston-O-M captured the team title at the Hawkeye Ten Conference Wrestling Tournament for the second consecutive year on Saturday at Red Oak.
The Panthers crowned two champions and placed in all 14 weight classes, with 257.5 points. Triston Barncastle (132), Kaden Bolton (152), and Jackson Kinsella (195) earned individual titles. Christian Ahrens (113), Keaton Street, (145), Andy Weis (182), and Chris Wilson (285) finished runner-up.
“We’re improving every time out with some young guys, our depth showed up today, we had all 14 guys on the stand, and it was a good day of wrestling,” said Creston-O-M Head Coach Cody Downing. “We have depth in the wrestling room, and I think it’s showing up in tournaments and duals.
“It means a lot,” said Coach Downing when asked about winning back-to-back Conference Tournament Titles. “It means a lot to our program and our school. It’s tough to win the Hawkeye Ten, and to do it two years in a row means a lot to us.”
Clarinda finished second with 185.5 points, Atlantic/CAM was close behind with 182.5, and Glenwood was fourth with 177.0.
Crew Howard (220) and Logan Green (285) earned individual titles, and Kaden Whipp (106) finished second for the Cardinals.
Joe Weaver (126) won his second Conference title for Atlantic/CAM, and Ethan Follman (120) finished second. Jaxson Bell (132), Tanner O’Brien (152), and Tristan Dorscher (285) finished third.
“I thought all fourteen guys wrestled hard,” said Atlantic/CAM Head Coach Tim Duff. “We scored some bonus points, and I’m pleased with that.
“Creston-O-M fields a tough squad, Coach Bevins is doing a great job at Clarinda, and we just snuck ahead of Glenwood for third place,” said Duff. “A top-three finish in the Hawkeye Ten is a good accomplishment for these kids and gives us something to build off of.
“We turned around a couple of matches we lost earlier in the year,” said Duff. Wrestling your best at this time of year is what it’s all about, and next week at sectionals we’ll see if we can get some guys to move onto districts.”
For Glenwood Head Coach Tucker Weber’s squad, Vincent Mayberry (106) and Mitch Mayberry (182) stood atop the podium. Tate Mayberry (152) and Zander Hayes (160) finished in second place.
Harlan finished fifth with 162 points. Luke Fruend topped the field at (113). Luke Musich (126) Zane Bendorf (170) and Jesse Schwery (195) finished second.
