(Audubon) A wintry forecast has students throughout Southwest Iowa optimistic for a snow day on Friday.
In at least one case, it might not entirely be a day off. The Audubon School Board previously approved a measure giving authority to the administration to use snow days as a remote learning day when they see fit. “And what will determine that for us is how much forewarning we have,” says Superintendent Eric Trager, “With the system we are looking at Thursday night and Friday, there’s pretty good likelihood that we’ll be having a snow day based on the current forecast. We have enough time to give our teachers ample opportunity to prepare and get things sent home with with kids.”
Superintendent Eric Trager anticipates tomorrow will be a virtual snow day if the weather hits as predicted. But that doesn’t mean every weather related day spend outside of school will be filled with online learning. “If it was an event that came up last minute and you wake up at 4:00 in the morning and things are bad and we need to go two hours late and then it turns into a snow day which is the more typical scenario obviously that would not give our teachers time to plan and prepare. That would just be a regular snow day and be made up at the end of the year.”
Trager adds, “We are very cognizant of the fact that kids like snow days and we are cognizant of that fact because we like snow days too. We are not going to make all snow days virtual snow days by any means, but if we have time to plan and prepare we think that’s a good option for us.”
Teachers in the Audubon School District have been asked to have material prepared for their online platforms by the end of the day Thursday. This includes take home packets for the younger grades.
