(Atlantic) — The Cass County Board of Supervisors approved a recommendation to fill a vacant jailer position during its regular meeting on Monday morning.
Chief Deputy Sheriff Spencer Walton addressed the board regarding the need to hire a new full-time jailer. Walton said the amount of training required will depend on the experience level of the person hired.
According to Walton, the new employee will spend several months job shadowing, and the county will invest in a week-long training session before the employee assumes jail responsibilities independently. Walton also noted that the academy recommendations call for two jailers to be on duty at all times. While the Cass County Jail is close to meeting that standard, he said staffing levels remain below the recommended number.
Following Walton’s comments, the Board of Supervisors approved the recommendation to hire a new jailer.
