(Atlantic) Atlantic senior Bodie Johnson signed with Northwestern College in Orange City on Wednesday to play football this fall.
Johnson, a fullback and linebacker, helped lead the Trojans to a 7-2 record and a second-round playoff berth. Johnson is coming off of an outstanding senior season. He led the team in tackles with 44.5, including 32 solos, one sack, and five tackles for loss. In addition to that, the first team all-district player led the team in rushing with 85-carries for 567-yards, averaged 6.7 yards per carry, and scored nine touchdowns.
Johnson says the family feel and the coaching staff played a big part in his decision to sign on with Northwestern College. The two-way player says he will play outside linebacker for the Red Raiders.
Johnson pointed toward the support from his teammates that led to his success this past season.
When asked about his role models, Johnson mentioned Coach Mike McDermott, Coach Lee Saathoff, Coach Joe Brummer, and former Atlantic athlete, Derek Stork, who is currently a Weights and Conditioning Coach at Appalachian State University.
Northwestern Head Coach Matt McCarty noted Johnson’s instincts as a football player will fit in well with the Red Raiders defense. McCarty feels Johnson’s leadership ability is another one of his strengths.
Northwestern College, an NAIA School finished the 2020 football season with an 8-1 record.
Bodie Johnson plans to study physical education and health and minor in coaching.
