(Atlantic) Track and Cross Country standout Taylor McCreedy ,of Atlantic signed a National Letter of Intent on Tuesday to run track and cross country at Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge.
McCreedy, a distance runner, is a four-time state qualifier in cross country, placing as high as sixth her sophomore year. In addition to that, the senior is a two-time state medal winner in track and two-time individual state track qualifier. McCreedy, a 3000-meter runner in track, may focus on the steeplechase at Iowa Central after setting the meet record in that event at the USTAF Championships in 2019.
McCreedy said the Iowa Central Coaching staff, and on-campus visit solidified her decision.
Taylor McCreedy, who persevered through some leg injuries during her high school career, noted the Iowa Central coaching staff stuck with her.
Iowa Central Head Cross Country Coach Nick Ekel says he is excited about Taylor’s versatility and determination.
Dee Brown, Director of Cross Country and Track, said Taylor has the personality their looking for in a recruit, and she brings a lot to the table.
Atlantic Head Cross Coach Dan Vargason said he’s enjoyed coaching Taylor over the past four years.
Coach Ekel in his fourth season with the Tritons, and his third as the Head Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Coach, has helped guide his teams to two NJCAA D1 women’s cross country championships (2018, 2019), and the 2019 NJCAA women’s half marathon championship. The men’s cross country team have posted top three finishes each year in cross country and half marathon. Since 2018, 11 Tritons have earned NJCAA All-American status in cross country, and 38 Tritons have earned All-Region XI status (Top 25) in cross country.
Taylor is the daughter of Marty and Shelby McCreedy.
