(Atlantic) Atlantic carries a three-game winning streak into the Week 5 football game at Des Moines, Christian on Friday. The Trojans enter the contest with a (3-1) record and are (2-0) in district play. The Lions are (2-0). COVID shut down their season temporarily for two weeks. This is the Lions first week back after the layoff.
Atlantic Coach Mike McDermott is pleased with the teams progress but knows this next one will be a challenge.
Des Moines Christian showed a balanced attack on offense in their first two games, which all goes through senior QB Jaxon Withers. In the two games played, the senior signal-caller is 24/51, passing for 395 yards and five touchdowns.
McDermott mentions running back Josh Shank as another crucial cog in the Lions offense.
The Lions defense is known to place a lot of pressure on the quarterback. How well the Atlantic offense handles that stress will go a long way in deciding this game.
Coach McDermott’s list of keys include; covering the Lions onside kicks, containing Withers and Shank, and controlling the blitz.
Easton O’Brien will start at linebacker for Ethan Sturm, who is out with an injury. Payton Fewson will be in a backup role on Friday night, but ready to play in Week 6.
