(Atlantic) Atlantic and Greene County are both (1-1) heading into district play on Friday night. The Rams fell short to South Central Calhoun last Friday night 34-7. Atlantic topped Kuemper, Catholic, Carroll, 21-10.
The Trojans played inspired football last week and improved leaps and bounds from week one to week two. The most significant improvement showed up in the rushing attack, with 192-total rushing yards for an average of 5.3-yards per carry. Korey Parrott and Bodie Johnson led the charge with 76 yards and 73 yards, respectively.
Atlantic Head Coach Mike McDermott says the goal is the same- improve each week.
Coach McDermott gives a lot of credit to the players on the offensive line to the likes of Devin McKay, Drey Newell, Gunner Kirchhoff, Hunter Weppler, and Payton Fewson.
Coach McDermott is impressed with the Rams junior quarterback Bryce Stalder and his number one receiver Jaxon Warnke. Warnke has eight receptions for 141 yards, and Stalder has thrown for 302 yards and rushed for 71.
Coach McDermott says offensively the focus is on connecting on some of the intermediate routes, to help move the chains. Garrett McLaren is 10/21 for 130 yards and one touchdown, Caden Andersen is 9/15 for 96 yards. Colin Mullenix leads the receiving corps., with seven catches for 84 yards and one touchdown. Grant Sturm has three catches for 61 yards, Garrett Reynolds, three catches for 27, and Garrett McLaren, has two catches for 20-yards.
