(Griswold) The Griswold School Board is asking the Corner Conference Governing body to reconsider the ticket allotment for volleyball games.
The Governing Body, made of conference principals released the fall activities guidelines this past week, and one of the sticking points for the Griswold School Board is the number of tickets allotted to each player. The conference is limiting attendance to volleyball matches to six tickets per player, and no conference passes. Additionally, all spectators must have a ticket to enter the game. The 2020-2021 guidelines are all part of an effort to control the spread of COVID-19.
“We certainly understand the conference attempt to try and do the right thing to social distance and fully support that,” stated Griswold Schools Superintendent David Henrichs.
Griswold Schools Superintendent David Henrichs says, for example, every district has a different size gym, which may or may not allow for more people to social distance. The size of the volleyball squad will also change the potential number of spectators permitted at matches and doesn’t allow for the different sized facilities within the conference. “For example, if there’s a school in the conference with 40 squad members and each get ix tickets, that’s 240 spectators, or another school only has 15 team members, that adds up to 90 spectators,” said Henrichs. “The ability to social distance is dependent on squad members. We’re just asking for a reconsideration on the ticket allotment of the guidelines.”
Henrichs says the other issue is the guidelines; don’t match the goals of the Griswold School District, which affects community support of the activity. “We’re trying hard in working on engagement in our community, and it’s hard when you’re turning people away,” said Henrichs.
Henrichs says the Griswold School Board has no problem with the other protocol requiring spectators to wear masks while entering or exiting the building or moving around. Fans are allowed to remove face coverings when maintaining social distance while seated in the stands.
