(Des Moines) The National Weather Service in Des Moines says strong to severe thunderstorms are possible in the western two-thirds of the state late this afternoon into this evening.
Andrew Ansorge, a meteorologist with the weather service says a cold front moving into the state will be the focus of thunderstorm development across northwest and western Iowa. “There is a threat for damaging winds, large hail, and a possible tornado,” said Ansorge. “The entire western two-thirds of the state is under some threat of severe weather today.”
Ansorge says cooler weather is forecast once the cold front moves through.
